I walked alone the other day around my favorite lake. It really is a lovely lake and I always enjoyed the geese and turles. Apparently these past few weeks I have seen less and less turtles and even less of the geese and the great bue herrions are even lowering in numbers..
Oklahoma is a very wonderful wildlife state full of cougars, wild dogs and many many more wild animals. The problem is the towns and cities are full of fast populations and people eager to sport hunt.
Depressing times for a girl my age. Hope to see you tomorrow

Good evening my last post i mentioned my father said we will be unable to drive to Little Sara desert and the salt plains in Oklahoma because of the rising fuel cost.
I have decided my research and dedication is way to important to allow gas prices steal my dreams. So I actually sold my bike for 50.00 and decided instead of a birthday party I will forgo all my present and party so my parents can have enough money to pay for my outing and my search for the white turtle.
Life to me as in any kids is more about having fun and playing and expanding my mind. So we will be leaving tomorrow to try and capture some pictures of these very rare creatures the White Turtle.

The homemade weed eliminator I experimented with the other day worked.
It was the vinegar and lemon mix that really got the weeds. Of course it is 96 degrees today and very hot. I was wondering like my parents wondered this morning.
For a kid to notice the price of regular gas before they head to bed is a bit odd I know, but last night before bed I looked at the gas price on the sign, just down the street form our home. It read Reg $ 3.49 a gallon. Now at 1 PM the next day it’s already $ 3.65
Daddy said we can not go look for the white turtle or the zoo because gas is to high right now to be driving around.
So parents are not the only ones feeling the effects us kids too are stripped of family fun time and outings with our parents. Way to drive and teach Americas youth.

Wow I was astonished today when I heard an my neighbor talking about the amazing white turtles out by little Sarah desert and the salt plains here in northwest Oklahoma.
Mom thinks he maybe be seeing turtles that are covered in salt but my 90 plus year old friendly neighbor was convinced he saw what he saw.
My Mom and Dad being such loving and supportive parents have agreed to go on a family white turtle expedition.
If what we find is true and I get some pictures of these amazing animals I will definately post them here on my today.com blog.
Have you seen of or heard of some mysterious wild animal lately?
Comment and tell us what it is you seen, heard or heard of and me and my family will do everything we can to find this hidden creature and bring back a photograph.
Hope to see you here again tomorrow time to help my parents cook our vegetarian supper for tonight.
Go outside find some bugs or rocks even.

Cicada Green’s Environmental Conservation Society is funding a proven recipe for an all nature environmentally and pet friendly organic or home made weed killer.
Today is day 1 of my experiment I did get two emails from readers who submitted a possible solution. The first was from Amanda Y. of New York City wrote,” I think lemon juice concentrated would definitely eliminate any weed.” Thanks Amanda we’ll give it a shot. Your 5.00 pay pal payment has been submitted to you.
Our second reader came from Paul W. of Billings Montana wrote,” My dad says cleaning with vinegar is safe for pipes, me and our environment. He also said it will even get rid of stubborn weeds.”
Thank you Paul and thank your Dad, We sent you your 5.00 pay pal payment.
Their we have it we set out and made up Three solutions. The first was just Vinegar . The second was concentrated lemon juice and the third was a mix of both.
All we did was spray along the leaves and near the base of the weeds. It’s a hot sunny day so hopefully it will burn the weeds. We’ll let you know in a few days or more which one or if all three worked and how well. If spraying the leaves fail I’ll make buckets and dump plenty of it directly onto the weed so it absorbs down into the soil.

Yestarday was awesome day for me and my family. First thing in the morining we took our three dogs Max 14 year old yellow lab chow mixed, Devias 13 year old Lab collie mixed and Racco 1 year old American Staffishire Terriern on an adventourages 3 mile walk aroundboomer lake in Stillwater Oklahoma right outside the Oklahoma State University campus.
As a child it is always special to me to spend time wit my family. We than took our canoe out on the lake or some flosting and swimming. During our natural walk around the lake pnce we tired form conaoeing I found some interested Cicada Shells. I will be putting up some pictures soon.
Once we returned home from our family outing I got to help pull weeds fro around my house and to my surprise we found a grasshopper breeding ground. Man was there alot big ones, little ones and ones with big red eyes.
So we stoppedlet the weeds alone so they had a place to live and eat and give the younger onesa chace to grow up. Sometimes just leaving things the way they are eve unsightly weeds is the best possible solution for the entire ecosystem .

My always thinking Mother’s idea of going green meant recycling everything, using all natural and organic products. Even hand me down clothes was just another way to recycle.
She even is destined to stay a vegetarian. Actually the later one was my idea. I needed away to boost my competitive ego once more and challenge my soon to be Veterinarian Mom to a no red meat marathon. All it took was a little statement that went something like this “How can any educated woman like yourself, morally eat the same meat she has dedicated her life to protecting? “ Not to bad for an eight year old no it all huh?
Her eyes wide, trash bags in hand and I actually thought about putting my foot in my mouth after that one. Many sun and moon’s later my foot is about as close as I have come to eating anything that once bled.
Let me remind you that Going Green and having A Green House does not have to be that extreme.
However my childhood nature once again got me in a pickle. (I have always hoped to use that phrase in an appropriate story)
My idea of creating our Green House meant outdoor adventures becoming one with nature.
We had to try extreme downhill mountain bike riding. My Mom said all we ever gotten from mountain bike riding beside great exercise was sore butts and blistered hands that seem to never heal. I on the other hand almost got a spanking after that one. Besides who wants to be seen with a Mom that just lost her front teeth by kissing a tree during an extreme downhill mountain bike ride lead by her thoughtful, loving daughter?
Bottom line boys and girls creating a green house inside your home will be a lot more enjoyable when it’s shared by the entire family. You create stronger bonds together and learn some awesome things about you and your environment.
Start small by recycling everything you can. Even in those areas that do not mandate or have a paper recycling center. Roll up old newspapers or magazines ( even better , read them online ) wet the rolls, making different sizes, place them on a rack of some sorts to air dry and the next time you and your green house family goes camping you have plenty of fire wood.

Here is an interested project for you to do before you head outdoors for today’s adventures.
Grab your favorite soft drink. Gatorade, Pepsi juice whatever maybe. Look at the nutritional label on the back and see how many grams of sugar it contains per serving. Be very careful on the per serving part.
Some bottles may contain one, two or more servings per container.
For example if the label reads 10g of sugar per serving it is has two servings then the entire bottle contains 20g of sugar (g=grams). Simple trick food companies like to use to make you trust they are adding less sugar. Now if your favorite drink is just one serving then the total would be just 10g of sugar.
Next with mom permission get the sugar bowl and for every 4 g of sugar on the label add one teaspoon. ( 4g=1 tsp of sugar.) In out 10 g example that would make ….How many teaspoons?
CORRECT : 2 ½ teaspoons of sugar. One bottle of Gatorade I know has 10 teaspoons put the sugar in a plastic bag and just think about that sugar you are drinking the next time you grab your favorite beverage.
See you again tomorrow

Green living is thought to coincide with global warming or Eco living. It is definitely about saving our earth and protecting our environment. I think most people today associate green living with tree huggy and protesting. What you fail to realize is green living is all of those things plus it’s a way to start feeling better about who you are and living healthy.
Besides being outdoors searching for bugs or trees or wildlife you will be exercising and spending time with your family.
My dad use to tell us during our family walks , ” If we can kick a can or a bottle on the ground we sure can bend over and pick it up.” He always said that littering would make the animals we saw at six flags great adventure in New Jersey sick.
One day one of us decided we needed to test the waters and see what would really happen if he accidentally let a piece of paper go out the truck window during one of rides home from the animal park.
Not only did we all have to pick up the dog poo in the back yard, the price you all pay when three of us were unable to take personal responsibiltyfor the incident.
Once that was complete and we have three dogs, we all grabbed a hefty trash bag and heading around the neighborhood picking up whatever litter or trash my parents can see.
Tough lessons for six, seven and nine year olds to learn but we learned and the thought of having to expand our trash detail the next time some let litter hit the ground was enough for me.
Looking back today I really never minded doing something good for my beloved green earth and I loved spending time as a family doing it.
Which brings me to my next post tomorrow when we start to talk about how exactly recycling is in our home and how home made organic mulch piles really are the neatest thing I love to do at home.

Hello I’m Cicada Green and I am very excited to be able to write post to you and share some interesting stories about organic all natural living. I am also going to take you on a journey of entomology. Don’t worry it’s not as difficult as that word sounds.
Being a certified master gardener and a biologist I hope together we can learn and share our unique ideas about our world and our environment.
We will be joined by Mom’s , Dads, children of all ages and even a special contributor A Dr of Veterinarian Medicine and she is very educated on all natural ways to help your pets live healthy happy lives.
Your first assignment will: Cicadas? Since I kind of have a certain liking for the name.
How many different species in the world? The USA? Your State? and of course your very own back yard.
This time of year in Oklahoma you can see perfectly shaped holes in the ground and my dogs often dig them up. Giant cicadas.
Get up go outback and I bet if you look and listen hard enough you will find more cicada or even skeletons of all over the yard.
See Ya soon
